Keith was an active guy, a soldier and a busy dad. When he started feeling poorly, he thought he was sick or was fighting an infection. Then at age 25, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Keith’s heart no longer functioned well enough for daily activity, but with the help of the Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) implanted by cardiothoracic surgeons at UW Hospital and Clinics, Keith is able to keep up with his family and enjoy their time together.
They are thankful for the moments they share, whether it is a walk at the park, snuggled up watching a movie or simply making each other laugh. Both Keith and Jessica are Operation Iraqi Freedom Veterans. They were married before deployment and hope to take their honeymoon and first family vacation after Keith’s condition stabilizes. Keith was working to stay healthy and fit so he can receive a heart transplant, but was struggling to be active enough to maintain a healthy weight.
He recently underwent gastric bypass surgery and worked to get to a healthier weight. Keith is currently waiting for his gift of life.
